2012 Official English PledgeThe late U.S. Senator S.I. Kayakawa of California founded U.S. English in 1983 with the objective of making English the official language of the United States government. He believed that a nation divided by language could not prosper. U.S. English works every day to ensure that linguistic division does not occur in the melting pot that is the United States. In fact, thirty-one states now recognize some form of Official English. Each election cycle, U.S. English reaches out to all political candidates to ask for their declaration that, should they be elected, they will support legislation to make English the official language of the United States.
